Flying over water is easy, in my opinion, not nearly as unsafe as over the mountains. If you're talking to center, they will have the USCG enroute before you hit the water. In my humble opinion, both mountains and water pale to the afternoon t-bumpers in FL and the Bahamas. If you wait to leave FL at 3:00PM without onboard radar or a storm-scope, you probably have less than a 50-50 chance of making it without major course deviations.

With your M-35 you're probably safer than I am in a C-172. With the extra speed, your overwater exposure is less, and ditching in a retract has got to be safer.

My wife has her private also. Even with her help though, about seven hours in the left seat leaves me exhausted. I agree that the worse part of your trip would be SLC to FL, that's a long flight.

As I said, in years past, MIA would lose me about 30 nm past Freeport, same with their weather radar. Also before, Freeport had no radar for their ATC. I suspect that Freeport has onsite radar now.

Talk Tammy into it. Any questions for me or my wife Beverly, feel free to ask. This is consistantly a great vacation.
