It would depend on where you were staying in the Abacos. There is not a central water system. There have been serious problems with the water supply in Treasure Cay for example. For more details, see www.tcpoa.com. I noticed that no one mentioned the high saline content of the water. I am not sure about the rest of the Island (s) but a lot of the water supplies on these islands have a high saline content. This has been verified by testing. I notice it in Treasure Cay. My hands swell up. Most everyone I know buys bottled water prepared with a reverse osmosis machine. It is sold for $.50 to $1.00 a gallon in the Treasure Cay area. This is not the stuff in the grocery stores. You buy it direct from someone with the machine. For example, our homeowners assn. in TC runs one in our office. We fill up our own jugs for $.50. The advice you got about being careful with children is wise. It doesn't take much to upset the apples. All water has some bacteria in it. If you are not used to it, it can cause problems. I have personally gotten ill from the tap water in TC when the water table was low. This was some years back. If it were me, I would drink bottled water. I do it everywhere, even in London!!!!!!
