The United Kingdom is made up of England, Scotland and Wales, which all three are one island. Great Britain is the UK plus Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is the top bit of an island off the West coast of the UK. The bottom bit of this island is called Eire, which is a separate state with its own laws, currency, etc. The British Commonwealth is a group of independant nations, most of which (such as the Baghamas)were at one time colonies or protectorates of the UK, but have now elected to see the Queen as their head of state with symbolic powers only. Incidentally, the number of nations in the British Commonwealth has, I believe, been growing for some years.
