Nancy asked that I post this to everyone: " Thanks to all for sending art supplies for Abaco Schools. Many people have sent supplies and the kids are busy making Christmas decorations at a craft and art class every Saturday at the Guana School. I am distributing supplies to other schools, specifically Cooperstown, Foxtown, Treasure Cay, Sandy Point, Moores Island and Marsh Harbour. Keep the supplies coming." l. Fisker's Scissors (kids size) 2. Crayola 24 pack crayons (no more than 24) 3. Crayola TRADITIONAL color markers 4. Elmer's Glue - all 5. tissue and crepe paper 6. Construction paper 7. Holiday Theme Stuff - Valentines I got to see the results of Nancy's crafts class. One of the participants did a beautiful green construction paper christmas tree. The day before we left Nancy said that she had introduced the class to glitter and they thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread.
Nancy was formerly a school teacher on Elbow. She said that the Bahamian Govt. does not pay for any supplies - only toilet paper, paper towels at the first of the term. Kids have to pay for their text books and anything extra for class. Most often extras come out of the teacher's pockets. Anyway, please follow the directions above. I asked about the 24 pack and traditional colors. More than 24 colors becomes confusing and anything but traditional colors starts a "discussion" between the kids. You can send the supplies to Nancy in care of Dolphin Beach Resort, or we will be going over in mid-January and you can send them to our office at 2244 Periwinkle Way; Sanibel, Florida 33957.
