The best source of info is "Florida Sportsman" magizine under Tropical Update and the Tournament Update columns. This is typically the start of marlin season which lasts through the summer. Tuna, dolphin, sailfish, and wahoo are sporadic with wahoo on the downswing this time of year. Mutton snapper make a spawning run sometime in this period and can be caught at night in Tillo Cut. Bonefishing is hit or miss depending on weather, but can be great if you hit the right morning. It can be windy or have frequent thunderstorms depending on the year. As far as baits for offshore the usual marlin lures, ballyhoo, and spanish mackeral will work. There are several seamounts and other structure to fish, but those are 10-20 miles offshore. If you are stuck in a rental boat(like myself) those areas are totally out of the question. Your best option is looking for bait, weedlines, floating debris, etc. closer to shore. With the price of gas, baits and no riggers a chartered offshore trip looks cheaper and cheaper. I'd be interested in hearing about the fishing when you guys are back. Good luck.
