Our family will be staying at Nor-Easter 1 for two weeks in July. We had a chance to visit Nor-Easter 1 this past December. The houses are identical, very nicely furnished and maintained. Nor-Easter 1 sits maybe 125 feet from the ocean with Nor-Easter 2 about 75 feet behind. From the deck of either house the ocean can be seen. During the warm part of the year the location of the house will put the porch in the shade in the afternoon facing the ocean breeze. Nice. The walk to and from Hope Town is about one mile (20 minutes) of some of the most beautiful, lushest vegatation we have seen in the Abaco's. However, realistically it is too far to plan on walking back and forth to town. A golf cart is offered for an additional $250 or $300 a week. The rental of the cart with the house places the weekly rental comparable with an in-settlement home. The dock for the North End of Elbow Cay (actually called Hope Town Point) is very nice and about an easy five minute walk from the Nor-Easter's. The ferry serves this dock. If you have a boat during your stay you could use the boat to go to and from Hope Town although docking skills can come into play. The other possibility is renting bikes. They rent for $48 a week from Harbour's Edge. The ocean has a nice, kind of dramatic beach. Obviously very private. If you go to the "Scrapbook" link on this great board scrool down until you find "Pictures from Hurricane Floyd." These are airial photos by George Nuse. Look at "Hope Town North." The two white-ish looking houses towards the tip of the Island are the Nor-Easters'. Find "Elbow Cay North 3." This is a another view of the Island. Note the large coral outcropping in the ocean off the beach. We have fallen in love with the Abaco's and it's people. The North End of Elbow Cay is quiet, very much like being in the country. All dirt roads, no vehicles to speak of. The sound of the ocean and the breeze rustling through the trees is usually the only sounds on that end of the Island. Hope this helps with your decision.
