Well, I must say I have had an enjoyable weekend of relaxationwith friends and family, and I have returned to find thes debacle. What to say, what to say!? Well first of all I want to make clear that I will be as objectional (free of the opinions of either side of this) as possible. I want to also direct my comments on the place more than the people, meaning I will talk about Nippers the establishment (not Johnny or other bosses) and Guana Cay the settlement (not the discontent or otherwise citizens/homeowners). When I choose to refer to individuals I will do so noticeably. Hence my response. I am a Bahamian, and an Abaconian at heart. My mothers family is from Great Guana Cay. Guana Cay back in the Late 70's early 80's, reminds me of family, and fun. It was always a quiet place (serene is the word that comes to mind), and I remember as a child running and playing thru the streets of Guana Cay with cousins and friends. I remember the beatiful beach on Northside. I remember great meals prepared by grandmother, and fishing with grandfather. Being at that time a child, I enjoyed Guana cay for the provision of fun and freedom with family. Guana Cay is truely a place for family. After having been away for 15 years, and seeing Guana Cay very occasionally in those years, I was very disappointed when returning 2 years ago. My first trip to Guana Cay I was surprised. I didn't recognise the place. There are benfits, I'm sure from the changes that have taken place over the years, but what was once Guana Cay, a place of fond childhood memories was now sick and dying memory. I can feel great sympathy for the people of this cay. The beauty of the cay, while it is still there, is not plainly visible anymore, and personally I feel that the tourists who visit now are being robbed of what Guana Cay truely is. Nippers is a contributor, I feel to the demise of the true Guana Cay. I believe in the benefits it holds. I have visited there myself twice since my return, and cannot say I did not enjoy it. I did, however, on one of those sundays witness a couple making out in the pool, and meanwhile children running about and playing in the same pool. The majority of people at Nippers were having a relaxing time, and enjoy a good meal and drink. The times I went there where not many at all who were scantily clad, the worst being a regular bikini (no thong). However, I have heard from others as well as some on the board that there have been times when it was rowdy and lewd, and not just recently either. Now, if indeed it has gotten to the point where there is going to be a b\need of bouncers, or even police presence, I am heartily on the side of the residents. Guana Cay has always been a peaceful place. I have never in all my life seen police on Guana Cay, much less any other form of security. If it is necessary for police or security in order for Nippers to run satisfactorily, I would rather there were no Nippers. Now we have to do the bussiness of bring resolve to an issue of this sort, one that is satisfactory to all, but more importantly, one that is right. We cannot just say "close down Nippers", that is nonsense. Johnny has built an establishment, that IS in fact a nice restaurant, and bar - even though there are serious bursts of wild and rude behaviour coming from it every so often. To all so concerned, yes I have read Johnny's response to all this mess, and I think he is doing the right thing, and I give him my best regards, and hope he can settle thing the right way. I think he may have in mind a good resolution. There is indeed a problem when you try to make it "No Rules" because then it makes it difficult to deal with problems when they arise, we are all rule breaker at heart, and would love personally if rules never applied to us, but then there would be chaos. Rules are needed to keep order, and to keep peace. To the Guana Cay residents posting this message, I cannot say that this was the best place for it. I don't know if you have yet approached Johnny concerning this issue, but if you haven't then you are wrong for posting this message here and now. However, if you had repeatedly tried to talk to him, and never received a response, than this is understandable. But whatever the case this whole issue needs to be continued between yourselves and Johnny, but not on the board. I am sure all will be interested in hearing the results of such a meeting, and we all I'm sure look forward to both parties in this issue being satisfied in the end. Please I urge you all to handle this in a mature way, and don't let the all mighty dollar be your motivation in your solution, there are some things much more important than that. My memories of Guana Cay are sick and feeble now, please don't let them die. JB
