Advice on a boat trip

Last year a buddy and I went to Bimini for a few days - we ate, drank, went diving, and had a great all around time. Next year we are thinking of renting a boat in the Abaco's and fishing and diving - and getting a cheap inland room to sleep in as we won't be there much. We have never done anything quite like this before - any advice would be welcome.
