Toni, Phones in rental accommodations are rare here. And if you really need a phone every minute, this is not really your place. BUT a little planning can help alleviate your worries: 1) Emergency Calls to you: a) Explain you are out in the Bermuda Triangle and no one can contact you quickly - period. b) Your cottage probably has an agent or caretaker with office hours, get that number. c) Email is actually best, either here: webmaster@oii.net or cruisers@oii.net, but make sure they know to tell us your boat or where you are staying and on which cay or at which settlement. 2) Calling back home. (You'll find public phones easily) a) The worst from a cost standpoint is to call back "Collect" but that will work and is fine if you only do a couple of calls. $4.50 for starters. b) Use an American or Similar Calling card. There are international 800 numbers posted almost everywhere on the public phones or are in the local phonebook: AT&T: 1-800-872-2881, MCI 1-800-888-800, UK Direct: 1-800-389-4444, ... But you still pay a premium. c) Get a BaTelCo prepaid card from any Batelco Office and many clubs and call: 1 242-300-CARD (2273) rate is same as direct dialing. Approx $1/min to US and you can use up the rest of the credit by calling 1 800 854-3573 (US), 1 800-463-0585(Can) 0-800-890135 (UK), etc. When you get home. Forget about bringing any US prepaid card: Wal-Mart, Albertson, 7-11, etc., over here, you cannot even reach their 800 numbers from the Bahamas.
