after many years of visiting the Abacos- first visiting my parents on their boat in
Hope Town and Treasure Cay and then renting a cottage in Hope Town we decided last
year to buy a property in Hope Town. I might have preferred a livable boat but my other half
is not so much of a water person so If we were to enjoy a place there it would have to have a foundation!
We did a little renovation and upgrades and spent a few trips working on it and now we are renting it out through one of the
local agents (Tanny Key) as well as have it(and pictures) on a couple of websites.
The rental income will pay the caretaker, the extra water we need to buy, the electricity, insurance
etc but not likely to ever pay off the mortgage.. We hope to to be able to spend more time (3 -4 mos a year)
in the next several years .. but for the moment our kids (8.13,15) enjoy it about three weeks a year , we get down a further two to three weeks
and my mom gets down 4-6 weeks..
So far in hurricane season (this is our second) you watch the weather sites quite closely but so far so good.
If people want more specifics e-mail me directly.
Neil
