Horse power is required to push the heavier boats especially
when loaded w 3+ people, coolers, gear, etc. To lessen the expense
when using any motor try to run at 2/3's or so of full throttle. At certain
times thunderstorms come up unexpectedly and obviously the
faster you move the better. The larger boat will run smoother
and drier in equal conditions than a smaller boat, too.

As far as the brands other than whaler they are not as wide,
nor do they have full upright and level floatation. Obvously
the other boats are safe as there are many of these boats in service,
but the whalers are more forgiving of a mistake or being
in an unexpected situation. As the primary person responsible
for the safety of my crew(my wife) and myself I tend to want
the utmost in safety especially in what was new water to me. It's supposed
to be a vacation and any worry that I can eliminate is a positive to me.

Susan, Seahorse offers a 25' with an enclosed cabin that
would be perfect depending on your mooring requirements. The other
whalers would be fine too just a little less protection from the elements. Rich's
offers a 25 or 26' Paramount that has very high sides
that might make a great boat for parties w kids, too.
