Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the fact that this relief organization is being co-ordinated or spearheaded, via the WorldWideWeb, by expats mostly it seems from the United States. It's amazing that very few people are (actually) in Treasure except our dedicated Webmaster, Mr. Sinclair Fredricks. and now if I may squeeze in my concerns: I live in Treasure and teach in Marsh, my fourth year now, and have a very deep heartfelt connection with Abaco Island and inparticular with my students many of whom hail from the lower end of the economic scale and therefore get lost in the shuffle. At this time, our high school is being used in the evening to house those from the local Bahamian/Creole community; those who have lost their homes ... While food basics and clothing, obviously, are urgently needed I would like to send out a wish list for much needed resources and supplies for the Art and Music Department at our school. We have an energetic new music teacher, the first in 2 years, and recently he mentioned a desire for instruments. The school has (a keyboard only). He would like recorders, the inexpensive plastic kind are great for students, also any other (new or used) instruments you may have around and not in use. Some resources I could use in my Visual Arts Program: magazines with pics: i.e. Christie's Intl'., National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Boating Magazines; the images could be used as stepping stones in the students drawings. In particular (any) Art related magazines and I would be truly blessed to received any High School Art History books (Jensen). Of course, pencils, markers, coloured pencils, coloured paper, and (brushes) especially small brushes would be a godsend. The list could go on ... Also, the music teacher and myself have daydreamed and talked about the possibility of creating an enrichment program to bring Bahamian students to Florida, to hear live music and visit art galleries. If you have any brillient ideas, suggestion, and could billet us in the future, please respond via email cavelle@batelnet.bs If you can send any resources at this time, space and priority providing, please address to the Visual Arts/Music Program at Abaco Central High School in Marsh Harbour. Or contact me at a later date. Thanks! It's great having such a caring captive audience. Many blessings, Cavelle Macdonell Art/Drama Teacher
