The
"No Commercial Posting"
Policy
Update September 23, 2004. Posts giving re-opening progress reports, dates, etc. in the aftermath of Frances and Jeanne are not considered 'Commercial Posts'

Orginally posted in December 1999.

The Abaco Message Board has always attempted to be Spam Free. To this goal we've had our "No Commercial Posting" Policy. The intent is to keep the Board a place where one could ask questions about Abaco and get answers, opinions or whatever, from others as individuals and not as advertisers. We had been especially harsh in enforcing this policy on our own supporters. If someone asked "Where do I stay on Abaco?", we didn't allow anyone to say "Stay at my ....". We have plenty of advertising space for that message. To do otherwise just turns the Board into a site for Spam.

But after Floyd we needed a place to quickly get out the message that Abaco was still here with places to stay, to provision, to eat, to visit and especially that our beaches, reefs, anchorages and waters were as enjoyable as always. By allowing "Progress Reports" and "Reopening Notices" I believe we provided an effective medium for this message - thousands of times a day.

But Floyd is now past us. We are going to start enforcing the No Spam, No Commercial Posting policies again.

Until February 1, we'll simply remind those that we feel are using the Board for the wrong purpose of our policy.  After that we will remove such postings directly.
