TREASURE CAY COMMUNITY CENTRE

The first annual Treasure Cay Community Centre meeting was held on 17th February at the Community Centre. The meeting was chaired by Wardy Thompson and attended by some 75 people. The purpose of the meeting was to explain what the Community Centre was all about and to answer questions and receive suggestions.

Wardy introduced the members of the board who were present and explained the election process. The Community Centre board is primarily responsible for raising funds necessary to support the various needs, and budgeting, directing and accounting for those funds. Another important function is planning special major projects as well as setting the long term objectives. All the church functions, selecting the ministers and the running of the church is handled by the church stewards. The Community Centre is not only used as a church but encompasses the library, parsonage and medical centre. It is also open for general use upon request for meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous, bridge, crafts and other community projects.

It was explained that the Corbett Endowment Fund is used primarily to keep the medical equipment up to date as well as purchasing equipment as needed. The Emergency Fund was also discussed, noting that contributions from approximately 150 people were received, totalling in excess of $230,000.

After Wardy's presentation the meeting was opened for questions and suggestions. It is the intent of the board to hold an annual meeting on the third Thursday of February in future years.
