ABACO TOURIST OFFICE UPDATE

The Abaco Tourist Office conducted Winter Residents Receptions on 17th February at Treasure Cay and 19th February in Marsh Harbour for the benefit of residents and boaters who frequent the Abacos and spend considerable time with us. the events were very well received and in both instances attracted over 150 people. Our office had expected about 100. Swiss Ambassador to The Bahamas and Canada His Excellency Urs Ziswiler was in town and attended the Marsh Harbour function along with Craig Woods, General Manager Out Islands.

The preparation of the new Abaco Tourist Office at 103 Memorial Plaza is progressing well. Erica Ingraham and Physical Plant staff are to be commended for their good work. The contractor Ronn Fox has indicated the upgrade work should be completed by the end of March.

Don Cornish, Manager of the Abaco Tourist Office, attended the Leadership for the 21st Century Conference 21st-22nd February, hosted at the British Colonial Hilton, Nassau.

Nadira Ullyet and Jessica Wilt of the Washington Times departed on 15th February after conducting interviews and touring various places of interest in the Abacos. They will prepare a report on The Bahamas highlighting economic trends, particularly in tourism and investment opportunities. They were assisted by Don Cornish.

Wili Miller, a writer from Vero Beach on assignment for fifty plus Lifestyle Magazine and Episcopal Diocese Publication, visited Abaco 25th-27th February to gather information and conduct interviews with various Abaconians. Ms Miller visited Marsh Harbour, Hope Town, Treasure Cay and Green Turtle Cay.

Lisa Dallyn, a researcher and writer for Star Service, a Reed/Cahner's Travel Publication for travel agents, was in Abaco 3rd-7th March. The purpose of her trip was to get an update on accommodations and attractions. She was able to see Marsh Harbour, Hope Town, Guana Cay, Treasure Cay and Green Turtle Cay.

The Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club held its monthly meeting/social on 7th March at the Jib Room, Marsh Harbour. The 150 plus yachtsmen were given a lecture on the Bahamian conch followed by a conch horn blowing competition. Wynsome Ferguson of the Abaco Tourist Office attended and served as a judge for the competition.
