TROPICAL FRUIT AND GARDEN SOCIETY

The Tropical Fruit and Garden Society of Abaco held their March meeting at the home of Anita and Steve Knowles at Bahamas Palm Shores. The speaker was Glenn Franklin whose topic was 'How to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse'.

Glenn has had extensive experience in landscaping resorts throughout the Caribbean and Bahamas. If used properly and set out in attractive combinations, many humble plants can become beautiful and care-free landscape plants. Among the plants discussed were Oyster Plant, Spider Lily, Pandanus, Sansaveria, Crinum Lily, Yucca, Firecracker, Agave and Eddo.

Just as the meeting was being called to order, a flock of Bahama parrots descended into the Madeira trees under which the meeting was to be held. There were between 12 and 20 of the beautiful, noisy birds. Many members said they'd never seen our local parrot before in the wild and were really impressed by the experience.

The next meeting will be held on Sugar Loaf Cay at the home of Joe and Donna Kern on Saturday 7th May at 10 am. A ferry boat will leave at 9.45 sharp. The speaker will be Gene Joyner from Florida and he will give demonstrations on pruning.
