SHOPPING AROUND
New and Expanded In The Treasure Cay Area
by Bill and Francine Durrell

Gary and Donna Hudson have rented their Hudson's Delight Restaurant to
Terell Russell and his wife. Terell is a baker and cook par excellence. He will be able to devote full time to the operation which the Hudsons, with their other full time jobs, never could. It seems a good move for everyone.

Dinner there the other night offered a wide variety of dishes including
several fish entrees with the specials being Cajan shrimp, shrimp scampi,
baked lobster with garlic butter, and lamb chops.

There were eight in our group and the dinners, the service, and the happy
feeling of the place was very much enjoyed by all. There is no liquor
served and guests are encouraged to bring their own wine or cocktails. Wine glasses are provided.

Several in the group left with freshly baked loaves of seven grain bread
which is as good as one can buy on the island.

Gerard Cooper, Macy and Hartman's youngest son, has rented the old
restaurant space from his folks and opened an overnight dining success
called Coconuts. The food is reported to be excellent, widely varied and,
like Terell's place, not in any way limited to traditional Bahamian dishes.

Also new to the area is a new grocery store Kula's operated by Mike Mikula on the corner of the Treasure Cay Road and S C Bootle Highway. Mike also runs the variety store G & M in Treasure Cay. The new store carries a wide variety of foods and household goods and will be a welcome convenience for all.

The large new hardware store near the Treasure Cay Airport has finally
opened and we stopped there to pick something up forgotten in Marsh
Harbour. With this new store, in addition to the well stocked smaller
hardware store in Treasure Cay's long building, many of those trips to Marsh Harbour to buy that one needed item will be avoided.

Jenson Edgecombe has added two new shops to his Triple J Car Rental and
Gift Shop enterprise. One is located across the street from the Treasure
Cay Airport and the other in Marsh Harbour.

Wendel's Bicycle and Golf Cart shop is about to add another twenty carts.
Though his and Johnny Cash's carts seem to be stacked up now they will soon disappear from the lot.

Bristol Cellars has taken over the liquor store in the Treasure Shopping
Centre. The many TC customers who trekked to their store at the Abaco
Hotel in Marsh Harbour to take advantage of the fine selection of wines are delighted.

Although business has been slow so far this season the spirits of local
merchants are high and things seem to be picking up.
