Charles Francis Lowe
Funeral services for Charles Francis Lowe, aged 90, were held at New Plymouth Gospel
Chapel on 6th March. Officiating was Evangelist Frank Perry, assisted by Evangelist
Kevin Knowles and Rev Doug Jenkins. Interment was in New Plymouth Cemetery.
Affectionately known to all in Green Turtle Cay as "Uncle Charlie", Mr Lowe had been
a fisherman and farmer but will be best remembered as a taxi driver. His pleasant,
humorous personality endeared him to many, including visitors to Green Turtle Cay.
Mr Lowe was pre-deceased by his wife, Neva, and survived by two sons, David and Hartley;
one daughter, Marguerite Sawyer; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother,
Floyd Lowe; sister, Nellie Cash; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Nehemiah Hepburn
Funeral services for Nehemiah Hepburn, aged 70, were held at St Andrew's Methodist
Church, Dundas Town, on 13th March. Officiating was Rev Carla Culmer, assisted by
Bishop Clifford Henfield. Interment was in Dundas Town Public Cemetery.
Mr Hepburn was born in Old Place and later lived in Cornish Town. He was one of the
first to relocate to Dundas Town after a destructive hurricane. He married Modina
Humes in 1953 and together they built and operated the Surf Side Restaurant and Bar,
"Uncle Dad" running the bar side of the business while Modina looked after the restaurant.
Mr Hepburn is survived by his wife, Modena; son, Nehemiah Jr; daughter, Karen Antonio;
six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Arnold, James and
Joel; five sisters, Dennlia, Gladys, Patrice, Sandrina and Delrosa; and a host of
other relatives and friends.
Catherine Bethel
Funeral services were held for Catherine "Katie" Bethel, aged 86, at Epworth Methodist
Church, Cherokee Sound, on 11th March. Officiating was Rev Carla Culmer, with the
obituary delivered by Patrick J Bethel. Burial was in Cherokee Sound Cemetery. She
is survived by three daughters, Edna Mae Arovas, Ann Mark and Sherry Wilchinski; three
sons-in-law, Jeffrey Arovas, James Mark and Edward Wilchinski; three grandchildren,
James Mark Jr, Brian Bethel and Aviva Wilchinski; one great-grandchild, Kaitland
Mark; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Leila Mae Hodgkins
Funeral services were held for Leila Mae Hodgkins, aged 83, at Epworth Methodist Church,
Cherokee Sound, on 12th March. Officiating was Rev Carla Culmer and interment was
in Cherokee Sound Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Joann Sturrup and betty DePuy; one son, Levern; one son-in-law, Eric Sturrup; one daughter-in-law, Betty
Hodgkins; three grandsons, Charles, Ronald and Richard Hodgkins; three granddaughters,
Kimberly Roberts, Katherine and Christina DePuy; two brothers, Harvey and Maldon
Albury; two sisters-in-law, Anne and Linda Albury; six great-grandchildren, and many other
relatives and friends.
