TOURIST OFFICE UPDATE

Members of the CPS Group of Dallas, Texas, are in the process of redesigning the Ministry of Tourism web site, were on Abaco from 16th - 17th February on a destination familiarisation trip. The group was escorted by Maxine Williamson, Assistant Manager - Information from our Nassau office. On the evening of 16th they had dinner with Ms Nettica Symonette, Vice President of the Out Island Promotion Board, and Mr Sid Dawes, a member of the Board.

The Bahamas Treasure Hunt Fly-In took place on Thursday 25th February at Treasure Cay Resort. The Fly-In was organised by John and Betty Obradovich of Pauma Valley, California, assisted by Greg Rolls of our Miami office. A Fly-In is designed to introduce pilots to the beauty of the islands of The Bahamas and give them the opportunity to familiarise themselves and experience flying into Abaco. A total of 18 planes participated, involving some 63 people. The group was hosted to a cocktail reception and dinner by the Ministry of Tourism. In attendance were Philip Mortimer and Greg Rolle of our Miami office.

A bird watching press trip took place on Abaco from 11th - 15th March. The trip was organised by Jennifer Maguire of BSMG Worldwide, the Ministry of Tourism's public relations firm in New York, and Charity Armbrister, Assistant Manager, Public Relations, Ministry of Tourism. The purpose of this trip was to familiarise the journalists with bird watching on Abaco. A slide presentation on birds likely to be found in The Bahamas was shown to the journalists by Mrs Lynn Gape, Public Relations Officer, Bahamas National Trust, assisted by Mr Paul Dean, a certified bird guide from Nassau. The journalists were able to bird watch at Different of Abaco, Casuarina Point, Hope Town, Abaco National Park, Crossing Rocks and Sandy Point. They were guided by Paul Dean, Lynn Gape and local guide Patrick Roberts of Sandy Point. The journalists were able to see and identify a number of birds, the highlight being a flock of 30 Bahama parrots in one spot near Sandy Point airport. The group was hosted to a special cocktail reception and dinner compliments of Nettica Symonette of Different of Abaco. Persons participating in this event were Robert Calhoun, Symbol magazine, Atlanta; Tim Gallagher, Living Bird magazine, New York; Rachel Dickson, Dolphin Log magazine, New York; and Kevin Karlson, Wild Bird magazine, New York.
