ABACONIANS HONOURED
Four Abaconians were honoured in the Queen's Birthday Honours 2000. They were Mr Percival
Archer and Mr Roscoe Thompson, who both received Member of the Most Excellent Order
of the British Empire (MBE); and Mrs Agatha Russell and Mrs Mildred McIntosh, who
both received the British Empire Medal (Civil Division).
Mr Percival Archer is a community spirited individual who used his skills to develop
a number of business entities on the island of Abaco. He was the first chief councillor
for local government in Dundas Town township. He is a justice of the peace and is
involved in all community-based activities. Mr Archer is president of Archer's Construction.
Mr Roscoe Thompson is an astute businessman who now lives in Nassau. He is the proud
owner of Thompson's Department Store. An active member of the Methodist Church, Mr
Thompson is known as a man with a heart of gold.
Mrs Agatha Russell is a prominent businesswoman in Northern Abaco where she is the
owner of several businesses at Crown Haven. These include a fish house and a fishing
vessel. Presently, she serves as the president of the Anglican Church Women of Little
Abaco and is also a member of a local lodge.
Mrs Mildred McIntosh has been a successful businesswoman for over 30 years. She resides
in Fox Town and is engaged in a number of civic organisations. She is presently the
Mother Leader of the Zion Baptist Church in Fox Town and is also a member of the
Eastern Star Lodge.
