SUPER SALESMAN

Bahamas Realty director Mario Carey has earned the prestigious Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation awarded by the international Council of Residential Specialists, making him the only realtor in The Bahamas with both CRS and CIPS (Certified International Property Specialist) designations.

The dual designations earned plaudits from Pat Strachan, president of the Bahamas Real Estate Association, who said Carey has taken professional training in real estate in The Bahamas to a new level. "There are now more than 500 realtors in The Bahamas and Mario Carey is the first to achieve the distinction of holding these two prestigious professional designations," said Strachan, who is also CRS-certified. "With his accomplishment of earning both the CRS and CIPS, Carey has raised the level of training and professionalism of real estate in the country."

Carey qualified for the CRS by completing a formal curriculum and meeting requirements in dollars sales volume, number of transactions completed and years of experience in residential real estate. Only 23,000 realtors of the 750,000 actively practising in the US have earned the CRS designation; only 1% are CIPS-certified according to the Washington DC office of the National Association of Realtors. Fewer than half of one percent are believed to hold both.

Carey, 41, is a director, broker and appraiser with Bahamas Realty Ltd, with offices throughout The Bahamas, including Marsh Harbour. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Bahamas Real Estate Association, chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, member of the Education and Training Committee, member of the Ethics and Standard of Practice Committee and member of the Rates and Commissions Committee.

At Bahamas Realty, which celebrated 50 years of doing business in The Bahamas in 1999, Carey is recognised as the super salesman who handled more than 45 transactions in 1999, a record he is set to top with more than 40 transactions completed half way through the fiscal year. "Mario Carey is not only an avid salesman, he's a totally dedicated professional who is committed to the highest level of education and excellence," said Bahamas Realty director Larry Roberts. "That is the direction we hope all real estate practitioners will take as we move ahead."
