TOURIST OFFICE UPDATE

The Bahamas Billfish Championship ended on 23rd June at the Abaco Beach Resort with a gala presentation and dinner. Nobody won the grand prize of $600,000 for breaking the billfish record. The largest marlin caught weighed in at 823 lbs. Nalini Bethel, Senior Manager Vertical Markets, and Samuel Gardiner, Director of Human Resources, were in attendance among the special guests.

A planning meeting for the Bahamas Bonefish Championships was held 22nd June. Nalini Bethel was in attendance. The championships were set for 26th-28th July in Abaco. The host hotel was Different of Abaco Resort, Casuarina Point.

Virgin Holidays led a group of agents to Abaco from London on a fam trip on 21st June. They were hosted at Bluff House, Green Turtle Cay. The group was accompanied by Tommy Thompson of our BTO London.

A television crew from Television Alemana, Germany, visited Abaco from 16th-24th June. The crew was here to shoot a documentary on billfishing in The Bahamas during the Bahamas Billfish Championship. They were able to get on board a few sport fishing boats during the tournament to film live action. Unfortunately, none of the host boats caught any billfish during that leg of the tournament. The crew were assisted by Don Cornish during their visit.

Crew members from George Stover Adventure Productions visited Abaco 19th-30th to take photographs to replenish their library. They were accompanied by Donnajane Turnquest of the Promotion Board. Wynsome Ferguson of BTO Abaco assisted with logistics.
