SUNSET POINT RESORT

Abaco's newest resort is situated just a few miles north of Marsh Harbour off the S C Bootle Highway but gives the feeling of being in another world. Sunset Point Resort overlooks Bustick Bay on the west coast of Abaco (which Bahamians call the south side) where there is very little development. Bustick Bay leads into the Marls, a famous bonefishing area.

The resort has eight rooms, six of them double and two of them singles - suitable for a couple. The rooms are spacious with one king or two queen size beds. Each one has individual Direct TV and a private balcony overlooking the sea.

Central to the resort is a delightfully intimate pool area which lies between the guest rooms and the Lazy Parrot Restaurant. Lunches can be served on the verandah and seating is such that everyone gets a cear view of the sea. For evening repasts the somewhat more formal dining room is used.

The lunch menu contains all the Bahamian favourites and full meals range in price from $7 to $12. Entrées on the dinner menu cost from $12 to $18 with seasonal lobster meals ranging from $28 to $32. A favourite with local people is the Southside Pork Chop at $14. On Saturdays Bahamian style breakfast is served and on Sundays continental style breakfast is available in addition to lunch and dinner.

Victoria tends the bar and is always ready to pour you your favourite libation. Joan Nixon is the manager and is your perfect hostess. On Sunday afternoons local entertainer Jarred Cooper plays Bahamian and Caribbean music for your pleasure and the dining is buffet style.

For active guests there are kayaks available to explore the intricate creeks and shallows of the Marls. Bonefishing guides are on hand to take you to Abaco's most productive bonefish grounds.

The Lazy Parrot is the perfect place for Treasure Cay residents to visit on their way home from business or shopping in Marsh Harbour. And when you make dinner reservations at 367-5333, don't forget to arrive before the sun goes down. There's a reason why they call it Sunset Point.
