ABACO TOURIST OFFICE UPDATE
by Wynsome Ferguson

Hope Town Filming: MacGillivary Freeman Films, with a crew of 30 from Laguna Beach CA, were in Hope Town from 15th-25th June to film an Imax documentary about dolphin communication. Kathleen Dudzinski, a marine biologist featured in the film, has a wealth of knowledge about dolphins which she demonstrated in the movie as well as shared with the students of Hope Town School.

The Abaco Tourist Office worked very closely with the film crew during their stay, assisting with recruiting over 100 extras along with a 28 member Junkanoo group out of Freeport called the Classic Dancers. The entire Hope Town community, as well as Marsh Harbour, benefitted greatly as all hotels and rental cottages were filled, extra ferry trips were required, the restaurants were busy, etc.

The movie will be released in February 2000 and will last about 40 minutes and will be shown on a screen six storeys high. Unfortunately, Bahamians will not be able to watch this movie as there are no Imax theatres in the islands. However, the film company has agreed to send video tapes for persons taking part to be able to watch themselves in the movie.

Bahamas BBQ Fly-In: The Bahamas BBQ Fly-In took place in Treasure Cay 3rd-5th July. A total of 15 planes participated, attracting some 45 people. The group had an opportunity to experience and enjoy the many attractions Abaco has to offer. The members of the group were hosted to a cocktail reception by Treasure Cay Resort and Beach BBQ compliments of the Ministry of Tourism.

O J Simpson Visits Treasure Cay: O J Simpson flew in for the day early in July to play a game of golf on the Treasure Cay course while his two children went fishing and swimming. He talked on the telephone to the Abaco Tourist Office while on the island and promised he would be returning in the near future for a longer stay.
