FAMGUARD CORPORATION ANNOUNCES NEW CHAIRMAN
The Board of Directors of FamGuard Corporation, the parent company of The Family Guardian
Insurance Company, has announced the election of Norbert F Boissiere to the position
of chairman of both FamGuard Corporation and Family Guardian. Mr Boissiere served as president and executive director of FamGuard Corporation and executive director
of Family Guardian prior to this appointment. He is also chairman of Family Guardian's
Investment Committee and chairman of the Trustees of the employee's pension plan.
Mr Boissiere's new appointment follows the recent death of company chairman Roscow Pyfrom.
Mr Boissiere with partners A R Jack Knowles, chairman emeritus and executive director,
and the late Roscow Pyfrom co-founded Family Guardian in 1965. Born in Trinidad and
educated at the Tranquility Boys and Fatima College, he began his insurance career
forty-five years ago. During Family Guardian's early years, Mr Boissiere served as agency
vice-president and was responsible for the expansion of the company into Caribbean
territories. In 1983, he was appointed president of Family Guardian and served in
that capacity until 1989 when he was succeeded by the company's current president Gerald
Strachan.
On accepting the appointment, Mr Boissiere said: "I assure my fellow directors of
my commitment to our corporation's goals and the plans and aspirations of our former
chairman; namely, to take our company to further heights, with continued strong growth
and expansion through new opportunities."
Mr Boissiere remarked that he feels that these are exciting times in The Bahamas.
"A booming economy, strong winds of privatisation, and an impending Security Exchange
will bring new opportunities for our company and we will continue to position ourselves
to take full advantage of the changing times. Our talented and dedicated management
team is committed to the further growth and success of Family Guardian."
The Board of Directors also announced the appointment of Charlotte Pyfrom as a director
of both FamGuard Corporation and Family Guardian. Miss Pyfrom, the eldest daughter
of the late Roscow Pyfrom, has previously served as an alternate director on the
boards of FamGuard and Family Guardian.
