I'm not sure all of our condos are occupied but certainly most are. Not all boat slips are filled, either. It is one of the busiest summers that I can recall and fortunately the weather is lovely. Admittedly, we have rain showers almost every day but they don't last and tend to quickly whisk away the humidity, which is a plus. The breeze is steady and the seas are warm. A constant parade of small boats keeps the canal looking like the intracoastal in Florida. And the land parade of golf carts, equally massed, makes driving a thoughtful event. Combined with lots of children here for summer holiday, the feeling is quite festive. Only trouble is that almost all are guests. Where are our owners? Surely they are missing some of the best months that Abaco has to offer.
My son, Eric, his wife and four children spent their annual holiday with us in June and we learned once again how little ones can brighten spirits and inspire creativity. From 20 months to 7 years, they enjoyed absolutely everything: boating, beaching, swimming, snorkeling, picnicking, exploring and "sneaking" which requires a dark night, a golf cart and a father willing to wind slowly through dark places with strange sounds and sights. Not sure this is the best medicine for sleep but it sure is a popular event which has become expected when they visit Grandma's house.
Other family groups are taking advantage of holiday times as well. Jorge and Consuelo Latour are surrounded by relatives for the month of July and 'Uncle' Marco Perez has his hands full with nieces and nephews all clamouring for his attention. Fourth of July found all of these little ones decked out in pirate costumes (courtesy of Consuelo) and a half dozen family-owned boats decorated in the same theme. Quite a production and enjoyed by all.
David and Freda Janney's families are here for their annual vacation with more relatives expected as the summer rolls on. David's son in law hooked and released a big marlin which was the fishing event of the day for Royal Palm anglers, not to mention plenty of fish for dinner. Peggy and Hagan Peters spent two weeks relaxing with good books and needlepoint and we enjoyed seeing them. Next month will see more Royal Palm owners return to enjoy the start of lobster season. Remember to renew boat and fishing licences. We hope to see you in August!
