SANDY POINT FOR SHELLS!
It has always been accepted that Sandy Point is the place for serious sea shell collectors
to visit. The Little Bahama Bank starts at Rock Point (called Rocky Point by the
locals) and the beach area between Rock Point and the picnic site is delivered of
new specimens on a daily basis.
Annie Parotti of Casuarina Point visited Sandy Point earlier this year and picked
up the shell of her life. It was a perfectly-formed Paper Nautilus: rare in any circumstances,
even rarer to be perfect.
Annie, who works at Bellevue Business Depot in Marsh Harbour, allowed the Abaco Journal
to photograph her 5" by 3" shell. Thank you, Annie. Just holding the fragile, feather-light
mollusc was a wonder and a delight.
