HOLIDAY DANCE PERFORMANCE

Green Turtle Cay will be holding its annual Christmas concert 7.30 pm on 2nd December at the Garden Theatre adjacent to the home of Abaco artist Alton Lowe.

A spiritually uplifting modern dance programme will be performed for the first time on 9th December at the same location. There will be a children's matinée at 2 pm featuring Goldilocks and Peter and the Wolf, while the Dances for the Holiday Season performance for adults will take place at 7.30 pm.

While the concert features several types of music, including jazz, country, Broadway and traditional Christmas songs, the modern dance performance emphasises the joy of the holiday season and the spirit of giving and sharing. The Momentum Dance Company of Miami, a long-established and prestigious group of 12 dancers, will showcase several classical works, including Handel's Judas Maccabeus, which addresses Hanukkah, and a new work called Regards Sur L'Enfant, which celebrates the birth of Jesus.

The latter, which is one of three dance pieces, is set to a highly spiritual score by French composer Olivier Messiaen, while another set to a new Latin work supplies a jazzy holiday change of pace. "This programme seeks to bring beauty, warmth, and a spiritual sense of joy and light to the season," said Artistic Director Delma Iles. "It celebrates the spirit of giving and sharing, and the kindling of light in the darkness of winter."

Admission to the 2nd December concert and for the performance of Dances for the Holiday Season on 9th December is $12 for adults and $5 for children. For information contact the Albert Lowe Museum at (242) 365-4094, Pat Robertshaw at (242) 365-4252 or Veronica Saunders at (242) 367-3543.
