A NEW FACE ON THE SCENE
Abaco will have a
new face on the cultural scene just in time for Christmas. Jennifer Hudson, a
British born and trained violinist who is now a naturalised Bahamian, is well
known on the musical scene in Nassau. Abaconians heard Mrs Hudson perform at the
3rd Annual Abaco Art Festival at the Abaco Beach Hotel where she serenaded
guests with relaxing music while they perused the exhibits.
Mrs Hudson is
the founder and concertmaster of the Bahamas Concert Orchestra, which performs a
yearly concert season t Government House and a very popular series in the
Montagu Gardens. The orchestra has thrilled Hope Town and Marsh Harbour
audiences during their two visits here. In addition to her work with the
orchestra, Mrs Hudson has a busy schedule performing at hundreds of weddings
annually and providing dinner music for private parties and business conventions
in all the major hotels both as soloist and with her chamber music ensemble
"Interlude". Recently she has performed before HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, the
Lord Mayor of London, former US President George Bush and also several movie
stars at the grand opening of the Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island.
In
addition to performing, Mrs Hudson also teaches violin. She has taught string
classes both privately and at Queens College and St Andrews School and to the
Royal Bahamas Police Force Band. She has also recorded at Compass Point Studios
for both foreign and Bahamian artists.
At the beginning of December, Mrs
Hudson will be taking up residence in Abaco and will be available to play for
weddings, receptions, business functions and private parties. Her diverse
repertoire includes light classical, popular, Broadway hits and devotional
music. She may be contacted at 367-4009.
