DEATH AT SCHOOL

Tragedy occurred out of the blue at Abaco Central High School on 22nd January when Grade 10 student Natanya Gaitor collapsed and died on the track during a regular Physical Education lesson. Teachers Patrice Charles and Charles Poitier had allowed the students to do voluntary exercises at the time while they worked on painting lines for the upcoming 15th February Inter-House Meet set for 15th February.

Natanya was taken to the Marsh Harbour Clinic in her cousin's vehicle and was declared dead on arrival by Dr Swarna. A search of medical records showed no indication of probable cause. The incident, the first death on campus of a student at the Abaco Central High School, was ameliorated to a great extent by a party of professionals in the education and counselling field led by Mr Cecil Thompson, District Superintendent of schools on Grand Bahama. A service held on 23rd January at the school allowed children to come to grips with the situation, sad as it was.
