We have reliable reports from Sandy Point that, during the week before Christmas, a storm surge caused flooding and damage to Disney's Castaway Cay complex.
A deep water docking area was dredged to allow the world's largest cruise liners to tie up at the mouth of Gorda Cay's harbour. A breakwater protecting most of the harbour's entrance proved insufficient during 35 knot winds to keep the harbour from becoming engorged with water.
The reports said the dock was cracked in several places by the surge and the seaward end of the dock was broken away.
Disney has recently announced that the date for the inaugural visit of the world's largest cruise ship, Disney Magic, has been set back. Refunds and reduced rate re-bookings have been offered for those who wanted to be among the first to enjoy Castaway Cay.
