ROYAL PALM FRONDS
by Betsy Bracey
The month of December brought both fair weather and foul to Treasure Cay but none of it seemed to deter a full complement of renters who filled all available units. There weren't as many owners here for the holidays as we usually see but among those who arrived was a new owner, Christa Weltchek, who, along with her family, had a wonderful holiday. Christa is certainly not a new resident in Treasure Cay being the owner of two Ocean Villas, nevertheless we welcome her into her new community.
Claudia and Peppino Campi along with Joan Appleton and Joyce Turpin celebrated the holiday in residence as did Mort and Kay Kaplan who were joined by David and Julie Kaplan and their two children. The McNamaras and the Rohans were among owners who escaped the north winds for a short vacation as well.
Along with all of our happy news we are sad to learn that while Lucy and Stuart Stripp were here their son was injured in an automobile accident in England. At last word he is off the critical listing but will have a long recuperative battle. We are also saddened to learn from Bob Williams of the passing of his wife, Bunky. Bunky had many dear friends in Royal Palm who will miss her. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Stripp family and the Williams family during these trying times.
December saw the construction of some spacious and attractive storage units next to our tennis courts. These units have been purchased by some Royal Palm owners who can now put their golf carts and other storage items under roof. December also saw the wrap up of the pump installations and sewer line and when the rains came it did not overflow. Wonderful news for all Marina Drive residents. We are grateful to Treasure Cay Limited for undertaking this much needed repair.
Late December witnessed the arrival of three RPCA Directors and their wives: BJ and Jerry Hill, Maribel and Andy Colson, and Jeanne and Bill Glasgow.
This writer travelled for the month of December with husband Woody Bracey throughout the length and breadth of the US. In Jackson Hole we visited daughter Nan and son in law Ralph with four of their amazingly grown up children and one wee girl, Rachel. Then on to Philadelphia with son Eric and daughter in law Celia and their four children and were happy to welcome their October addition, Tace Harris Sutherland, in a lovely Christening ceremony at St David's Episcopal Church. Celia is the daughter of Bobbie and Sully Sullivan who stay in the Time Share Units each spring. Our family is getting so large that we'll soon need a hotel of our own to house all the grandchildren!
We also had lovely visits with Woody's Dad, Elwood, and his sister's family in Orlando. Dad, 85, golfs 18 holes 3 or 4 times a week and beats us all! Lastly, a trip to Hanover, New Hampshire, for a wonderful visit with brother Bob and Jane whom many of you know. Having owned property in Treasure Cay for 25 years, Nan and Eric grew up on the island and wished to be remembered to all their friends who now have children of their own. Woody then returned to South Africa to wind up his long and very rewarding medical career by teaching the Head and Neck Surgery which he has practiced for 30 years. He is affiliated with University of Stellenbosch and Tygerberg Hospitals in Cape Town.
All of us wish all of you the Happiest New Year possible.
