TOURISM MEETING
Under the theme "Enhancement of Tourism Product and Awareness in Abaco", members of the Abaco hospitality industry met in Marsh Harbour on15th January with Tourism and Local Government officials to discuss ways to improve tourism on the island. The meeting was chaired by Sherry Parker of the Abaco Tourist Office and there were remarks by Don Cornish, Clerk to the Central Council; and Charlene Fernander, Ministry of Local Government.
There was lively and constructive input from the businesspeople present. The main thrust of the meeting centred around Marsh Harbour International Airport and among the ideas adopted were: a troubadour singing island songs to greet passengers; a display area where newcomers could select brochures and literature while awaiting Immigration and Customs; a public address system for music and announcements; beautification of the interior and immediate exterior of the airport buildings; and, eventually, a cabana or traditional Out Island building where visitors could obtain information and hospitality.
