BATELCO HONOURS RETIREES
At its combination Christmas Staff Party and Awards Evening held at Bayview Restaurant
on 8th January, BaTelCo and the BCPOU honoured three employees who retired during
1998. Awarded with plaques and interesting looking envelopes were Birdie McIntosh
of Fox Town, Neville Kemp of Cedar Harbour and Lena Edgecombe of Sandy Point.
The evening was filled with good humour and seasonal spirit which included songs from
BaTelCo's General Manager Michael Symonette. In keeping with the spirit of the evening,
there were no long speeches.
Employee of the Year awards went to Awandale Stuart (Clerical), Eugene Dawkins (Technical),
Juanita Hall (Operator), Emmalin Sawyer (Manager), and Minnalee Bodie (Staff). The
Central Telegraph Office of the Year award went to Cherokee Sound for the second
successive year.
Making the presentations were Marsh Harbour Manager Tellis Symonette, BCPOU President
Shayne Gibson and BCPOU Vice President Ricky Smith. Also in attendance were Hon Robert
Sweeting MP and Mrs Sweeting, Senior Island Administrator Everette Hart and retired Marsh Harbour Manager Warren Albury and Mrs Albury.
