ABACO TOURIST OFFICE UPDATE
by Wynsome Ferguson

Don Cornish assumed duties as the Tourism Manager for the Abaco Office on Friday 26th November.

Abaco Towns by the Sea and Abaco Beach Resort are still undergoing major renovations. Abaco Beach Hotel is constructing a third storey on the eastern portion of the original structure. Construction on both facilities is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2000.

Millennium celebrations are being planned for Abaco through the local government agencies. It is unclear what these celebrations will entail.

Danforth Prince, a writer from The Frommers Guide, arrived in Abaco on 5th December to visit and assess various properties for the 2000 publication. He was assisted by Don Cornish and accommodated at Hideaways in Hope Town and Bluff House at Green Turtle Cay. He departed on 7th December.

The Ministry of Tourism hosted the Southeastern Bonanza Society Fly-In on 9th December at Treasure Cay Beach Resort. A Fly-In is designed to introduce pilots to the beauty of The Bahamas and give them the opportunity to familiarise themselves with flying into Abaco. 35 planes participated and the event attracted over 70 people. The group was hosted to a reception at the Tipsy Bar and Grill in the evening.
