Beware! A fund raiser purportedly for improvement to the Treasure Cay Police Station is a scam. Members of the public who have bought a ticket should go to whomever sold it to them and reclaim their money.
TNT Burns: TNT Service Station on S C Bootle Highway near Murphy Town was destroyed by fire at about 12.30 pm on 2nd December. Owner Basil Wilmore was serving a customer, John Williams, when he noticed smoke. Realising the seriousness of the situation he tried to remove cars from the vicinity, Unfortunately, some cars that were in the service station for repairs were totally destroyed. The cause of the fire is unknown and police are investigating.
Morgue Rejected: At a 5th December Dundas Town Town Committee meeting an application to turn the old Dundas Town Clinic into a morgue was rejected. It was claimed that as the morgue was next door to a secondary school the location was inappropriate.
Murphy Town Grows: At the next general election Murphy Town will have two polling stations. By law, a polling station cannot accommodate more than 500 voters and Murphy Town now has 509. The boundaries for the next election will be unchanged with 2,761 voters in North Abaco and 2,581 voters in South Abaco.
Central Pines Estate: The 400 lots in Central Pines Estate between S C Bootle Highway and Forest Drive will shortly go on sale. The electricity is complete and Waugh Construction are finishing the last task, that of drilling drainage holes. The sub-division cost $6 to create.
Toys for Tots: The Scurvy Few motorcycle club made their 4th annual ride through the Marsh Harbour/Dundas Town/Murphy Town community on 9th December to highlight their Toys for Tots drive. Skeet LaChance said it was the most successful drive to date. There was also a mini fair with food, drinks and games which brought the amount raised this year to over $5,000. The price of admittance to the fair was an unwrapped toy. The toys will be wrapped and distributed to needy children on Mores Island and the mainland.
