VIRGINIA WHITTEMORE McALEER

Virginia Whittemore McAleer, 71, lifelong summer resident of Candlewood Lake Club, Brookfield CT, died on 13th November 1997 at home in Melbourne FL.

Mrs McAleer was a graduate of William and Mary College (BS) and Yale School of Nursing (MN). She lived around the world with her husband, Col John J McAleer Jr, USA Ret. In addition to her husband she is survived by her three children: Pamela A Baines of Richmond VA, John J McAleer III of Westerly RI and Linda M Cady of Hamden CT. She had three grandchildren: Kelly Baines, Becky Baines and Shannon Cady. Burial was on 16th November in Hope Town, Abaco.

The McAleers were married 1st September 1951 at Dwight Chapel, Yale University. They first visited Hope Town in 1979 and became long-term winter residents in 1985. Ginny, as Mrs McAleer was known to her friends, worked tirelessly during her yearly seven month stay in Hope Town during the past ten years for permanent home for the Wyannie Malone Museum and completing the Wyannie Malone genealogy. Both, through her efforts, should become a reality in 1998.
