SAND BANK YACHT CLUB NOTES
by John Lacey
The autumn programme of the Sand Bank Yacht Club was to have begun on Monday 17th November with a Beach-Bum, Burger and Beer Bash at Bakers Bay Beach. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate, so the venue was changed at the last minute to the Tipsy Seagull restaurant and bar. We thank Treasure Cay Ltd for so cooperatively accommodating our needs.
Sixty-five members and their guests gathered at 11 am to enjoy renewal of friendships among the many members who had spent their summers elsewhere. Hamburgers and hot dogs, with all the traditional accompanying fixings, were provided by the Club and cooked to perfection by the friendly and efficient staff from the Spinnaker Restaurant, ably supervised by Elliot Sawyer. Beer, wine and soft drinks were provided and served by the Club.
Undaunted by the inclement weather, Edna Lacey replaced the nature-oriented treasure hunt, which she had carefully engineered on Bakers Bay earlier in the week, with an ad hoc hunt around the grounds of the Tipsy Seagull and Spinnaker Restaurant. The treasure, a case of Kalik, was discovered by a member/guest consortium led by Nan Gregory, Anna Snapp and Betsy Wheeler.
Despite the disappointment of a denied opportunity to use their boats, everyone at the party agreed that a good time was had by all, thanks in large part to the hard and creative work by Fleet Captain Bill Floyd and his lovely wife, Myrna.
