A BIG PIG...

How big do Abaco's wild hogs get? According to Bahama Coral Island's Dave Russell, they can reach over 400 lbs if they are fed right.

Four years ago, Dave Russell caught a small piglet near Guinea Schooner Bay in south Abaco. He took the piglet home and named him Maestro. Over the next few years David fed Maestro well and the hog grew steadily and begat many healthy offspring. He is now a 'tusker'.

Maestro lives in roomy compound on the side of a hill at BCI, surrounded by his family. At the mention of the word 'ham', both David and Maestro looked askance. The question for the future will be: "How long do Abaco's wild hogs live?"
