BENJAMIN L CURRY

Funeral services for Benjamin Curry, 82, were held on 22nd November at the new Bethany Gospel Chapel, Murphy Town. Officiating was Rev David Cartwright, assisted by Rev Stafford Symonette and Elder Lucian Curry. Interment followed in Murphy Town Public Cemetery.

Mr Curry is survived by his wife, Hilma; four sons, Erskine, Beltram, Lucian and Edward Curry; one step-son, Earlin Ward; three daughters, Beverly Davis, Prescola Edgecombe and Lucy Symonette; one adopted daughter, Roxeleta Dean; thirty-one grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; and host of other relatives and friends.

Mr Curry was born in Bluff Point and was one of the original adult settlers of Murphy Town. He was a seaman most of his life and also operated a general purpose store. Mr Curry was a man of religion with a great sense of family and community. One of his jobs later in life was to make mail bag deliveries from the airport to the Marsh Harbour Post Office. "He was a faithful man," Ena Mae Parker said of him during her eulogy. "He was always cheerful, smiling and humming a tune. To know him was to love him." Mr Curry's son, Lucian, is a member of the popular gospel group Cooling Waters and they performed as part of the farewell.

NEHEMIAH COX

Funeral services for Nehemiah Cox, 78, were held on 10th December at St Martin's Anglican Church, Sandy Point. Officiating was Fr Hugh Chapman assisted by catechist Benjamin Pinder. Interment was in Sandy Point Public Cemetery.

Mr Cox is survived by his brother, William Cox; two aunts, Alice White and Ethelin Smith; and other relatives. He went to work on contract in the US in 1945 and on his return continued his trade as a fisherman in Sandy Point. Fondly called 'Miah' by those who knew him, Mr Cox passed away in Princess Margaret Hospital, Nassau, after a lengthy illness.
