SAND BANK YACHT CLUB NOTES

The Sand Bank Yacht Club held no social events in December. Nevertheless, many of our members took advantage of the clement weather to arrange informal boat trips, and the seas around central Abaco were festooned with boats which proudly displayed their Sand Bank Yacht Club pennants.

The next scheduled Club event is the Change of Watch Dinner at the Spinnaker Restaurant in Treasure Cay on 21st January, starting with cocktails at 6 pm. At that time, Brian Sheehe, our Commodore, will oversee the passing of the Flags to the 1999 slate of officers who will be:

Woody Bracey has worked hard during November and December of 1998 to plan the Club's 1999 programme. He has preliminarily arranged seven events:

1. Valentine's Day Dinner and Dance on Sunday 14th February.
2. Boating Excursion with Catered Lunch on Wednesday 3rd March.
3. Golf Cart Parade, Easter Bonnet Competition and Brunch on Sunday 4th April.
4. Boating Excursion and Pig Roast Dinner on Wednesday 21st April.
5. Guy Fawkes' Day Beach Bonfire on Friday 5th November.
6. Pre-Holidays Pizza Party on Wednesday 1st December.
7. New Millennium Change of Watch Dinner on Wednesday 26th January 2000.

A novel boating event concept, tentatively entitled "Random Rendezvous" will also be tested in 1999. In it, the Club will act as a catalyst to encourage informal gatherings of members at specific locales, on specific dates, for specific activities. Members may choose to participate or not, as they wish, and the Club will play no formal organisational part in the events. Almost all with whom this idea has been discussed have endorsed it. Time will prove or disprove its validity. "Random Rendezvous" dates, places, times and activities will be announced in January.
