TOURIST OFFICE UPDATE

Irene Lambert and Frederic Bailly of Paris Match magazine, a French publication, visited Abaco May 24th-28th. They were in The Bahamas to conduct interviews for a feature story on the country from a government, economic and tourism perspective. While on Abaco they interviewed leading businessmen and individuals and took time to attend the North Abaco Music Festival. They were assisted by Don Cornish.

William Gray, a freelance writer for the London Times and Sunday Telegraph, visited Abaco May 24th-26th. He covered Hope Town, Marsh Harbour and Green Turtle Cay during his visit. Don Cornish assisted him during his brief visit.

The first Annual North Abaco Music Festival was held May 26th and 27th at the Regatta Site, Treasure Cay. A number of bands from Abaco, Bimini, Freeport and Nassau performed. The event received mixed reviews and attracted 350-450 people each night. Mrs Antoinette Davis attended on behalf of the Ministry.

Homecoming festivals were held in North Abaco and Sandy Point during the weekend of June 1st-4th. Wynsome Ferguson represented the Abaco Tourist Office at these events.

The Travel Agents Advisory Board meeting was held June 2nd-4th at the Community Centre, Treasure Cay. The meeting went extremely well and a high level of discourse took place. The Hon C A Smith, Minister of Tourism, addressed the opening session and thanked the members for their contribution to the promotion and marketing of the islands. A final dinner was held a Different of Abaco at which time board members leaving the membership were awarded and congratulated. The Director-General and Deputy Director-General were among the senior tourism officials in attendance. Don Cornish attended the sessions and assisted with coordination.

Priscilla Williams, Assistant Manager of the People to People programme visited Abaco June 5th and 6th. A public meeting was held on 5th June at the District Magistrate's Court, Marsh Harbour.
