TREASURE CAY POLICE STATION RECOMMISSIONED

Friday 13th June turned out to be a wonderful day for the Royal Bahamas Police Force as the Treasure Cay Police Station was recommissioned next door to the Royal Bank of Canada. The weather was fine and an audience of several hundred observed the ceremony and enjoyed music by the popular Royal Bahamas Police Force Band.

The police flag was raised and a large plinth unveiled by Hon Cynthia Pratt, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, in the company of Commissioner of Police Paul Farquharson and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Northern Region, Ellison Greenslade.

Earlier in the programme the Treasure Cay Primary School choir sang “You Can Be What You Want To Be” and one of the things they could be was a police officer. Edward Whitcraft, President of the Treasure Cay Property Owners Association, spoke briefly on behalf of the Treasure Cay community as did Steve Pedican, Chief Councillor for the area.

The addresses by Commissioner Farquharson and Deputy Prime Minister Cynthia Pratt both stressed the tremendous cooperation the police had received from the TCPOA and others which made the recommissioning possible. DPM Pratt called for the Treasure Cay community to continue their assistance with the local police officers in their efforts to keep the peace in this close to idyllic vacation resort. Until recent events the police residence had also served as the police station.

When the ceremony was over the public were invited to tour the new station and partake of refreshments.
