BRIGANTINE BAY BITS

It's been a while, so I have some sad news first and then I can leave you on a happier note. We have lost our dear friend and neighbour Robert Albury, or Captain Bobby as everyone in Treasure Cay knew to call him. Robert Irwin Albury was an Abaco man, born in Cherokee Sound on 25th February 1918, and he died on 14th May this year at age 81 following an accident and head injury. Ironically, he was visiting his wife Louise in a Florida hospital. They would have been married 64 years as of this writing.

Capt Bobby was one of the first people I'd met in Abaco where he was managing the villas now named after Brigantine Bay. He had worked for Capt Leonard Thompson in his earlier years and eventually wound up as captain on one of the freight boats plying between Abaco and Florida. He is survived by his wife Louise, son Keith, daughter Kathy and numerous grandchildren. He was a true gentleman and will be missed by many. I could fill pages more about Capt Bobby, but what I remember most was his love for fishing. So here's a final thought for him I'd like to share with you:

A Fisherman's Prayer

God grant that I may live to fish
until my dying day,
And when it comes to my last cast
I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's safe landing net
I'm peacefully asleep,
That in his mercy I may be judged
good enough to keep.

Capt Bobby - you're a 'keeper'!

The glad news is the wonderful guests who have returned to the villas on the bay, some by boat, to continue to enjoy Abaco as the place to have a holiday and the different reasons for their interest and attraction. My favourites are the folks from Frankfurt, Germany, wanting to know when the next hurricane is scheduled. They were out on a dock, ankle deep in water, video-taping the passing of Hurricane Erin directly overhead! But the most meaningful couple was our daughter Theresa and husband Bill (Capt William) McGough returning for their second anniversary of meeting and being married here in Treasure Cay. Capt Billy has also found a 'keeper'!
