SIVDAS ARANGIL
A celebration of the life of veteran teacher Sivdas Arangil by family, friends and
ex-pupils was held at Abaco Central High School, Murphy Town, on 12th May. The eulogy
was delivered by Hugh Cottis.
Sivdas Arangil was born in Bombay in 1938 and came to The Bahamas almost 30 years
ago. He married the former Nancy Turnquest and they have two daughters, Nina and
Seeta. Sivdas came to Abaco in 1978 and taught Woodwork and Art at Abaco Central
High School in Spring City. He retired three years ago but remained a stalwart member of the Rotary
Club of Abaco, the Abaco Cancer Society, the Royal Yacht Club and the Abaco Darts
Association.
Sivdas suffered a fatal heart attack while visiting friends in Ontario. He lived long
enough for his family to join him and be with him at the end. Sivdas' remains were
cremated and, following the celebration, half of his ashes were sprinkled into the
harbour near to where he had lived in Marsh Harbour. The remaining ashes were sent to
India to be sprinkled there.
FRED EDGECOMBE
Funeral services for Fred Edgecombe, 70, of Coopers Town were held at Church of God
with Rev Archilus Cooper officiating. Interment followed in South Side Gardens, Coopers
Town.
Mr Edgecombe is survived by his wife, Willamae; sons, Elvis and Freddie; daughter,
Rosenell; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
LUNDY ALFRED EDGECOMBE
Funeral services for Lundy Alfred Edgecombe, 36, of Coopers Town were held at Church
of God with Rev Archilus Cooper officiating. Interment followed in South Side Gardens,
Coopers Town.
Mr Edgecombe is survived by his mother, Willamae; brothers, Elvis and Freddie; sister,
Rosenell; and many nieces and nephews.
JACK BERNARD SAUNDERS
Funeral services for Jack Bernard Saunders, 61, were held at Green Turtle Cay Gospel
Chapel on 20th May. Officiating was Rev Doug Jenkins assisted by Junior Roberts.
Interment was in Green Turtle Cay Public Cemetery.
Mr Saunders is survived by his wife, Ann; two sons, Jack Jr and Al; one grandson,
Dylan Saunders; his mother, Vivian Saunders; and many relatives and friends who will
miss him dearly.
