ANNIE
On 7th, 8th and 9th May Forest Heights Academy staged an updated version
of the musical Little Orphan Annie, updated in that the costumes were
contemporary as were references to public figures. The show ran at New Vision
Ministries in Marsh Harbour before sizeable and appreciative audiences.
Destiny Cornish did a fine job in the lead role, very ably supported by
Josh Malone as Daddy Warbucks, Rebecca Risberg as Daddy’s secretary Grace
(look for her in the future) and Tia Knowles as Miss Hannigan. Their performances
were most unamateurish, measured and self assured. It was obvious from their
diction and voice projection that the stage director Leslie Kennedy and musical
director Viki Hart had done a thorough job during rehearsals. Indeed, the
whole cast deserves an accolade for a blemish free performance, as does Jane
Uiberreiter, the choreographer.
Susan Parotti designed some clever and imaginative sets which were changed
swiftly with the minimum of fuss by an able crew who had the unenviable task
of working in full view in the absence of a curtain. The whole production
team had obviously operated as precisely that - a team, well coordinated and
thoroughly rehearsed.
The overall result was a most enjoyable evening of entertainment. We look
forward to Forest Heights’ next production. All involved deserve credit and
can look back on Annie with pride.
