ABACO TEACHER WINS NATIONAL TEACHER OF THE YEAR
After a nationwide selection process, S C Bootle (Coopers Town) teacher Kenneth Romer
was declared Teacher of the Year in an award ceremony held at Radisson Grand Hotel
on Paradise Island on 3rd May.
Mr Romer was one of 13 finalists from all the participating islands of The Bahamas,
a man winning in a profession dominated by women. Present at the ceremony were the
Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham and his wife, Delores, who is also a teacher. The
PM said the teacher's role was paramount to the overall success of any nation.
S C Bootle Central Secondary School celebrated Mr Romer's success on 6th May at a
ceremony where the District Supervisor for Abaco, Jackson McIntosh, reminded the
public that Mr Romer was not only Teacher of the Year for Abaco but the selected
candidate of over 3,500 serving teachers in The Bahamas. Part of the proceeds of Mr Romer's $8,000
cash award would, Mr Romer said, go to the Abaco Scholarship Fund.
