TROPICAL FRUIT & GARDEN SOCIETY OF ABACO
The final meeting of the Tropical Fruit & Garden Society of Abaco's1998 season was
held at Parrot Point, Sugar Loaf Cay, home of Joe and Donna Kern. On hand was Gene
Joyner, a leading authority on tropical plants and an old friend of the Society who
has visited with us every year since our inception.
Gene showed the 65 members on hand how to graft fruit and citrus trees, mainly using
a veneer graft. He also gave a demonstration of marcottage, or air layering.
It was a delightful sunny morning with enough breeze to keep everybody comfortable.
After the presentation sandwiches, sodas and fruit cocktail were served. Several
members indicated they preferred meeting at other members' homes to renting a hall.
We will be looking into that for next year.
