MARY THOMPSON
On Friday 3rd December 1920, in Poland, a daughter was born to Anna and William Tofin.
The child was given the name of Mary. When she was 11, her family moved to Canada.
On 8th October 1941, at the age of 20, she married Capt Leonard M Thompson of Hope
Town and the union produced three sons and three daughters.
Mary was a mother and wife of the first order, yet along with these responsibilities
she found time to be a successful entrepreneur as well as the wife of a politician
for 20 years. An outstanding woman in many ways, Mary was loved by family and friends
across the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and throughout the world. During the past 18
months Mary had been ill with cancer but her courage and determination, along with
her sense of humour, gave strength to many. She passed away peacefully at 7.30 pm
on Thursday 13th May. Funeral services were held at St Francis de Sales Church on Monday 17th
May, followed by interment in Hope Town.
Left to cherish fond memories are her husband of 58 years, Capt Leonard Thompson OBE;
three daughters, Gail, Kathy and Terry; two sons, Lennie Jr and Chris; one daughter
in law, Peggy; and eleven grandchildren, Tina, Lennie III, Laura, Lisa, Jessica,
Diana, Monique, Darvin, Jade, Shannon and Dylan.
