Cabinet Shuffle: Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham made extensive changes to his cabinet members a little over a year before the next general election is due. The new cabinet comprises the Prime Minister; Deputy Prime Minister Frank Watson, National Security; Kenneth Russell, Public Works; Earl Deveaux, Labour and and Justice; Dion Foulkes, Education, Youth and Sports; Theresa Moxey-Ingraham, Public Service and Cultural Affairs; Sir William Allen, Finance; Janet Bostwick, Foreign Affairs; Cornelius Smith, Transport, Aviation and Local Government; Algernon Allen, Housing and Social Development; Tommy Turnquest, Tourism; James Knowles, Agriculture and Fisheries; Dr Ronald Knowles, Health; and Zhivargo Laing, Economic Development.
Abaco Man Gaoled for Rape: Christopher Archer of Marsh Harbour was sentenced to six years in gaol by the Supreme Court before Justice Lyons after pleading guilty to a charge of rape. Archer was not represented by counsel.
Bahamas Wins! The Bahamas beat Peru 3-2 in an American Zone One Davis Cup first round tie when Mark Merklein defeated Patrick Boza 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 in the final game of the series. Previously Mark Knowles had won his singles match and the two Marks won the doubles match. The Bahamas will advance to the elite 16 of the at home 6th-8th April.
